Anyone using this Summit Steering Column?

I like it and it looks like it should work but I don't know the measurements to ours right now.

Coming from Summit it's worth a try. If it doesn't fit you can always return it. They have the best return policy around!

Where exactly does the 33" measurement from? Meaning, from what point on one end to what point on the other end exactly?

I just measured my factory tilt and it measures 32 3/4" from upper housing to the bottom of the lower housing, does not include any measurement of the upper or lower shaft.

That sounds promising. I wonder if we can find out about the Summit one. I would imagine housing to housing is the standard, but I'm not a steering column guru, so I don't know that for sure.

Anyone ever get a hold of one of these? I may have to bite the bullet here in a week or so and order one to see what we're working with. Like was mentioned earlier, if it doesn't fit, I can always return it.

And on another note, I really need to concentrate on one aspect of my build!! I have the rear end lowered, a spare bedroom full of sound deadener and an entire stereo system, boxes of front end rebuild parts, a Blazer tank on the way, HID lights sitting here waiting to go in....CONCENTRATE DEREK!!!

Derek, I do the same thing, I see something cool and buy it, set it in line but it seams the line never shrinks.

Keep in mind that you will have to purchase the double "D" universal joint, double "D" with spline shaft universal, and intermediate shaft to use it. I also believe it doesn't have a nutral safety switch. WES

Ive got one and it's installed....havent wired it up yet so I cant completely say I love it but so far so good. I did buy the shaft and ujoints and the moron that welded them up for me welded them without taking good measurements. So tomorrow I will try to grind them off and reweld next week. I also bought the "Suggest Parts" female plug and it does NOT fit. I called Summit and he agreed that it didnt look like it'd fit and didnt know why they had it on the "Suggested Parts" list.....

as for looks, you cant go wrong for $299....hopefully it works as well as it looks!

I ordered this one from KMJ Performance. Looks to be the same comes with all the levers and steering wheel adapter and it was $230 shipped. I'll find out when it comes

the factory column is 35" long, and 2" OD tube...i run a 33" column, 2" OD tube. in my 68.. you shouldnt have any problem mounting it as usual..like said, you'll need the steering joints to connect it to the steering box tho

Do any of you guys who have bought one of these know where they are made and who makes them? Are there any stickers or stamps on any of the parts or the box? I know there are repros of our stock columns that are made offshore but i was looking for something american made. i realize that they are most likely chinese since they are so low priced, but i figured i would ask anyway.

I called Summit about these a while ago... They said they have a known manufacturer make colums for them and box them as Summit brand... with that said, they sell Flaming River and Ididit... I think thats what he was saying without being allowed to say it...

That KMJ brand. Is that Kev's classics line of columns? I've not heard of problems with his. He is a board vendor and member here.

That RPC looks EXACTLY like my Summit....buy the RPC, support a board vendor and it's a bit cheaper too.

As for who makes it, Im sure your right MCMLXIX...same goes for TVs. I went to Best Buy a few months back and looked at their DYNEX series, which is a Best Buy Brand. The guy compared it to a couple other TVs and said, hmmmmm they look alot alike huh!?!?! Told me to go home and google it....of course it came back saying either LG or some other big name brand makes them, it all depends on the serial number.

Either way, Im completely satisfied with the cosmetics....now to get the damn thing installed. I welded up my steering shaft last night, so tonight/tomorrow that should go in along with the wiring.

Does Kevin have a plug adaptor for it? As I said before the IDIDIT does not fit...

Ive got no photoshop/paint skills...and Im lazy but this will do.

Steering Column Plug on left, IDIDIT female plug on right

Arrow points to clips where female end should snap in....IDIDIT doesnt have them.

Crappy Hash marks show a WIDER end piece on column plug than female plug, which prevents it from fitting.

Everything else seems to line up (D-P wires), so I'm thinking I can pull the drummel out and just shave that down....whatcha'll think?

Looks like you can use a razor blade to trim the plastic as necessary.
