8 lug wheel question
Hi! Newbie with a question...I bought my first old truck, a 75 C20 with the old 8 lug 16.5 steel wheels and want to swap them out for some modern stock 16s or 17s so I can get tires..lol...I've gathered from reading on here that the late model truck wheels will fit, but does anyone know if the 06 or so Express Van steel wheels fit? They LOOK the way I want them to...thanks in advance!

Re: 8 lug wheel question
I think you have to shave the calipers on anything "undersized" from what the factory put on the older trucks. Just try them out if you want. Put them on, and if they don't rub, you're good to go.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Pretty sure they will. I had some aftermarket 16 inch wheels on my truck for a while, then found my Slot 16.5's. Before you buy any wheels, ask to put one on the front of your truck to try it out. Do a rolling check with it in the air, and turn lock to lock with the steering, with the weight on the wheels. You will probably need new lug nuts also. Good luck!

Re: 8 lug wheel question
The lowest size rim you can run with out mods are a 16 inch. To my knowledge all chevy 8 lug rims are still being made in the 8x6.5 pattern, so if those rims are what you want go for it.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
67-present 8 lugs all have the same bolt pattern for Chevys. The van wheels will fit, they are 16's. As far as I know, all stock 8 lug wheels from the 70's up are at least 16". the newer trucks are 17" because of their bigger brakes a 16" won't fit any more.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Id really try to find some of he newer 17" wheels just because they are 1" wider than the 16"s. I've run newer 16"s on several squarebody's and they look a little too sucked into the wheel well to me.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Of course, there's always the option of keeping the 16.5s. Anyone know of any tires out there that aren't the expensive Firestones or Michelins? Are they making offbrands in that size that cost somewhere around $100 each?

Re: 8 lug wheel question
I got my 31x10.5x16.5 BFG radial All terrains from Tirerack.com for a little over $100.00 each shipped! That was years ago, but I'll check again for you......They don't have them anymore That must have been a close-out. Nothing else under $136.00 each, and they only have 3 of those.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
These trucks were available with either 16s or 16.5s using the same calipers.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
^yeah my 3/4 ton came with the 16" wheels.
If you have a 3/4 ton and have the skinny wheels they're 16's. the wide wheels for the 4x4s were 16.5's I dont remember the width of my skinny wheels but it had 7.50-16 tires with a 5.5' wide tread on them. Oh and if you do sell those 16.5's there are LOTS of people who would buy them, they're getting hard to find. |

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Got a set of 16 inch silver 06 steelie Express Van wheels with trim rings and center caps for 80 bucks...the previous owner had had them replaced with aftermarket when the van was new and put the old ones in boxes, so they're effectively brand new. Thanks for the info!

Re: 8 lug wheel question
The newer Fords will not bolt up, they went to a metric bolt pattern, not sure of the year they changed over, but for sure they no longer fit.
