Width of the rear...!?! WMS-WMS
Hello everyone. I'm looking for the wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface for the rear axle in a 1978 2wd c10 12 bolt. I've search the forum with no luck, and found everything but on the web. Looking to swap out my 3.07 open diff to at least a posi unit, higher gear a plus. Need the width so I can see what donor vehicles to search for. I could go pull the tires off my truck, hoping somebody has the info though....Thanks.

Re: Width of the rear...!?! WMS-WMS
It is right around 65 inches if I am not mistaken. I have a ford 9" that is 65" wms to wms and I shouldn't have any problems putting in under the truck. You can find the 9" all day long bc they were used in so many different vehicles for a long time. I got mine for $50 drum to drum. To keep costs down just have the axles redrilled along with the drums. I am going to see if the drums are will swap between the 10 bolt and 9" to try and save even more $$$.

64-3/8".
Just measured the one I took out of a 87 1/2 ton 2wd Suburban.

Ditto on that measurement. I'm putting a 3.42 posi from an 87 suburban today. 11.25" drums, 2.75" shoes, all match the 3.08 coming out of a 76.
