Re: mildew problems
I would say run it all the time you have the garage closed up. There is mildew killer that you can wipe the walls down with but if they are bare block I don't know how they will work. I think there is some that you can put in paint for the walls too.

Re: mildew problems
I have a block garage, concreet floors, & no issues. I slide big sheets of cardboard under my old truck

Re: mildew problems
Consider why you have moisture issues and address that. Then treat the mold or mildew.
Is water able to drain away from your building? Is your block/cement sealed? I have issues with my house garage that will probably result in me jack hammering up the current slab. Then digging down deep adding the proper rock base. Then adding a vapor barrier. Hope you wont need to do that. Is your landscaping sloping away (down) from the structure? Hows your roof/gutters? Good luck let us know how Its going.

Re: mildew problems
I would do away with the carpet. The moisture has to stay there a while to form mildew and the carpet will stay wet.I run a dehumidifier in my basement constantly, and it's a pain to remember to drain,so if you can put a permanent drain in for the unit do so.

Re: mildew problems
rug would b a sponge for the moisture, rubber mats are better
having good ventilation both inside the garage and outside is a plus

Re: mildew problems
Remove the carpet. concrete is porous and the temperature difference will draw moisture from under the slab into the warm space. That is why moisture barriers are installed in all commercial buildings. Without carpet it vaporizes into the air, with carpet it is captured and starts to mildew. Dehumidifier will work to get it out of the air but the carpet will still be damp and mildewing. I have small rubber area pads where I stand at the work bench. I roll them up when I am not using them because even here in the desert I'll get dampness under them if they are left down.
