Column to floor shifter conversion
I need your input. I want to convert my 3 on the tree to a floor shifter. The 3 on the tree is worn clean out.
I have a 250 L6 with a saginaw 343 transmission. Which kit do you recommend? I don't want to break the bank but I do want a quality short throw shifter. Any knowledge on the install would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Column to floor shifter conversion
If you have the non-synchro first gear tranny I've used a Mr. Gasket #7667A shifter. It has an 18" tall handle that clears my bench easily. It's not a short throw. Can be made to be one though. Let me know what tranny you have. I don't remember if the sag 343 id the old style non synchro first. What year is your truck. How many bolts on the side cover? I'll post some pics if needed.

It has 7 bolts on the side. Here is a pic. I know absolutely nothing about trannys. What does non-sync mean?

Re: Column to floor shifter conversion
Non-synchro means it won't go back into first without grinding. With yours that's not a problem. My shifter would work on yours. You can buy one on ebay for 60 bucks. There's one on there today. You can also use a hurst mystery shifter but they're about 300 bucks for a new one. Depends on your budget. Hurst is a shorter throw though!! But not as tall of a handle and it hits your seat. Always a compromise. Here's a link to the shifter I've got.
