Chop Saw question

I have been thinking about getting a chop saw, but being the cheap person I am, I was wondering can I just slap a 10" metal cutoff wheel on my 10" Porter Cable mitre saw. It's a spare mitre saw I use for baseboard, and door moulding, so I'm not worried about tearing it up. Would that be a stupid thing to do, or is it not safe ? Anyone else done this with good results ? Thanks in advance

only problem i see is it might be hard to get clamps on the mitre saw to hold the material in place. seems kinda sketchy to me but that's my .02 cents

Yeah I didnt think about that ! That could cause some problems... I think I need to get a chop saw then and stop being cheap Thanks for the input !

nothing wrong with trying to save a buck, but the wife works for a plastic surgeon/hand specialist. and after seeing some of the hands that she has to put back together, its enough to make you wanna puke. after all it could get challenging to build a truck with out hands

I thought about doing this a while back and I think the 2 machines had different arbor sizes. I ended up getting a used Porta-Band.

I have used a skilsaw with an abrasive blade on stainless, it actually worked well on schedule 10 pipe.

Study up before purchase! I went running to a low priced saw and after seeing it up close ran away.
I ended up with a Ryobi which I'm not so sure I'm happy with?
It seems to not leave as nice a cut as I would like.
Maybe I need a better blade?

I have used a skilsaw with that blade on cast iron pipes in the crawl space of a house, it cut well but I didnt like it. Thanks for the input.

I've been eyeing a Bosch (I love Bosch) and it was $200 or so. Maybe that will be my Christmas present

You will kill a regular miter saw in a hurry trying to cut steel. Get a regular chop saw. That takes a 12 inch cutting disk so you can cut larger material. Make sure you get one that has a clamp built into it so you dont burn the hell out of yourself trying to hold the material your cutting.

I am pretty sure the Bosch saw has a clamp, but good point. I have been burned more than once by hot metal Thanks !
