New
Hey everyone,
Just revived my OK to join you guys and gals. Glad to be here. Little about myself: I love in WV married with a 1 year old. I own a 72 C10 LB that had a 350 and now has.. what I was told.. is a 283 . My friend bought this tuck to tow around his 55 Bel Air. That project did not go well for him and he gave me the 72 . I have started amassing the parts for this tuck. I know the truck was assembled in Baltimore in Feb of 72. I will have a few questions that I will post on other threads along with some pics of the tear down and build up. Anyway, glad to meet all of you. |

For positive confirmation, look at the top rear of the block behind the intake manifold. You want to see a hole for a road draft tube or a PCV connection. The hole might presently have a freeze plug in it, but if the hole isn't there at all, your engine can't be a 283. Btw, this does not mean that every engine with that hole is a 283, but every 283 does have that hole. Ray

Re: New
Ok thank you for the information. I should have the finders off this weekend so i will know what it is. I do not know that the block has a tube that comes off the the top and vents down. I loose oil through that.

Re: New
I ran the suffix on my boat engine. It's a 190 hp 283 out of a 64 chevelle, no provisions for a road draft tube..
welome to the site, be sure to check out the forum for your state. Usually a good place to find some local events and forum members if you need a hand with your truck. Or sometimes anyting else, most guys on here would trip over eachother to give a fellow trucker the shirt off of their back.

Welcome from Arkansas! Looks like the 72 is realitively rust free. Nice start.

Re: New
Thanks jay6891, The floor board needs a little work but I think i can manage that. The floor of the bed is the worst of it. I would love to drive down to NC and collect the one I have seen out of a parted out 72.

ignore the specs in my sig, thats what i was told the engine was before i ran the suffix. best pic i have of rear of block, doesnt really prove what the numbers say, and lots of wiring, hose and cable covering the area in question. sorry for getting off subject on your thread wv just trying to learn something new.
