NP241 speedo output conversion
Has anyone changed an NP241C with the VSS output to a cable driven speedo output?
I have a cable driven NP208 and will be picking up a 90 Suburban with the NP241 as a drive train donor that has the VSS output. I need the cable drive to run the speedo as I don't want to install an electric speedo or the ECM in my truck. Anybody done this? I know the two share some parts and both have the same output spline count. Could it be as simple as a tail shaft housing swap? I would just use the NP208 but it is a 27-spline and I need the 32-spline to mate up with the T-400 I am installing.

Re: NP241 speedo output conversion
I think they are very similar. The only problem you might have is if there is a driven gear pressed onto the output shaft of the transfer case.
If your 208 is in good shape, why not just run it? It "should" bolt in place of the 241.

The drive gear on the NP208 just slides on over the output shaft. I would bet the reluctor ring on the NP241 is removable too. I have a press and was a machinist for the air force so a pressed on gear is no big deal. Hopefully the OD is similar and all I have to do is maybe drill a retainer pin notch to keep the drive gear in place. My big concern is that the tail housings don't interchange. Worst thing that happens is I end up having to buy a whole set of Auto Meter gauges for my truck so I can get an electronic speedo to work with the VSS output of the NP241. Honest honey, I had to buy $600 worth of gauges so my speedometer would work
