I got an idea... easy mid bed

It's probably been done here before so I was wondering

With lots of people converting their long beds to short beds with all that work and ending up with a bouncy lil truck

why doesn't a person just cut a foot off the back of the bed behind the wheel?
Wouldn't be much easier than chopping a foot out of the middle of the frame/bed? The truck would still ride nice, have a decent amount of cargo room in the bed and not look so much like a freight train.

Who has done it and how did it turn out?

That would look kind of strange, don't you think?

nope but I'm not always the brightest crayoin in the box
I think it would have about the same amount hanging out behind the rear wheel as it does hanging out in front of the front wheel

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed

I've seen it done on some 67-72's and it looked OK. seems like it would be good for someone wanting to tow, but wanted the shorter bed. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Thanks!

I will be towing my boat and will sometimes haul my scooter in the back
An swb wouldn't cut it and besides I'm not that energetic to take the whole truck apart

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed

I saw a 60-66 shortbed on here once that had a foot cut off the end so it was a 5 foot bed... looked ok but not my style, i like the long fleets

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed

There was a picture posted somewhere on the net of a long fleet with the section behind the tires removed and the tailgate & bumper moved forward. IMHO it looked goofy. It didn't look like a pickup truck any longer, more like a special purpose tow tug or something you'd see at an airport or an oil refinery that had a special reason for being built that way.

There is one in Yuba City that had this done to it... it looked odd to say the least.

My question would be what is so wrong with a long bed that people feel the need to cut them up?

Kinda reminds me of some of the F**ds that have the longer wheelbase. Looks a little odd IMO

Re: I got an idea... easy mid bed

Wow.. tough crowd here today.

For what it's worth the ones I saw I liked. But I am not a me too kind of guy.

I have a picture of a back chopped '65 fleet, but I can't find the link? The photo below is a digital picture of a printed photo... quality sucks but you get the idea.

This guy stated it was a back chopped long bed, but it looks to me like some was taken off the front of the bed also?

That's my kind of picture right there

Looks to me like something was taken off the front or maybe even a shortbed with some chopped off the back?
