just put on headers and new exaust.....???
so i got a 84 k10 i got a 350 in it with a 350 tranny, i put headers and some flotech afterburner mufflers, the headers are 3 inch and i got a reducer to go down to 2.5 inch, the truck sounds really good. when i got it warmed up when i first stomp on it it kinda hesitates a bit..not bad just a split second...other than that its great...do i need to adjust the carb at all for this change?
break its starting to get cold out...does anyone know how to hook up the choke? right now i dont have any wires going to it. |

i would say check your bowl levels and see what they look like and then tweek em a bit. sounds like shes boggin out for a sec when you first give it gas like maybe shes wanting to over fuel. but thats just my guess.
what kinda carb are you runnin?

Re: just put on headers and new exaust.....???
looks like a 1406 is a 600cfm. regardless what does the fuel level look like in the bowl at idle? you want the fuel to be about 1/2 full in the bowl. does it only "start to cut out" at the first pump of the pedal while at idle?

Re: just put on headers and new exaust.....???
from what youve said it sounds like your heavy in the bowl from my experience (mind your im not a wiz with these just speaking from what i know) i would let it idle and look at the bowl with a flash light and see your fuel level. then turn your screw 1/4 turn at a time till you get it to where you want it. just remember 1/4 turn at a time

Re: just put on headers and new exaust.....???
I don't think it is the mixture screws. They just control the idle air fuel mixture. I used to run one of these carbs on my trans am. Make sure you set the float bowls correctly when you rebuilt it. That is the first thing I would check. I purchased a callibration kit from summit for the carb. It comes with alot of different size metering rods, jets, and springs. It also comes with a nice set of set-up instructions so you can get it set pretty close. Sounds to me that you have a nice open free flowing exhaust, and you need a little more fuel to go with it. As far sas the choke goes, any hot wire activated by the key swtich will work. As long as the wire is hot with the key on and goes dead when you turn key off. I think one of the wires going to the alt. is activated by the key switch. Check it with your test light.
