What exactly is a "heavy half".
Just curious what exactly made up the "heavy" in "heavy half ton". I THINK is just larger rear brakes, 3 leafs up front and an extra leaf or two in the rear.

Re: What exactly is a "heavy half".
From what ive read its a half ton with 5/8 ton springs. It was a way around emission equipment for a while as well since half ton and lower trucks were required to have cats and such first.

Re: What exactly is a "heavy half".
pretty much nothing except a rougher riding front end. some guys think the six lug makes it a heavey half but every 4x4 fullsize halfton is 6 lug so it doesnt make a diffrence really.

Re: What exactly is a "heavy half".
Essentially it's a half ton truck with the suspension and shocks of a 3/4 ton truck. They also had a slight brake and tire up-grade, but kept the 1/2 ton's axle(s), spindles, and wheels. The goal was to beat the emissions standards of the time.

Re: What exactly is a "heavy half".
in 1985 I bought a GMC Sierra Classic and ordered it special, I got every option except the V8 (yea I know, dont go there) it had the heavy half suspension and the only real difference was it had dual tanks, larger tires, I think 400lbs higher GVRW (wasnt much more), heavy duty cooling for rad and trans. I think that was all there was.
