4.3 L. chevy V6 in my "82" C10
i have 1982 chevy C10 short box 2wd truck currently with a chevy 305 and a th350 3.23 gears i think origanaly it came with a 4.2 L. straight 6. my question is that my dad bought a wrecked 1992 S10 2wd with the 4.3 L. v6 and i got to drive it before we torn it down and it ran really good lots of power only 120xxx miles on it. it comes with a th700r4 i know it will bolt right in with me changing the motor mounts and trans cross member.... i just want to know if thats going to enough power i dont want a high performance machine but i also dont want to have to get and push to go up a hill i want a really good reliable daily driver what you guys think.....??? thanks.

Probably about equal to the 305 you have now but it wont feel as peppy as the s10 seeing as the full size weighs quite a bit more.

You'd better change your rear-end gear, a set of 3.73's would make it more driveable. Those tall gears coupled to a 4.3 with a 700R4 would make OD practically useless.

Id run 410s or atleast a 373 rear gear. Should be a decent truck tho. Nothing wrong with the 4.3, I like em.

Re: 4.3 L. chevy V6 in my "82" C10
I had driven a K1500 from the early '90's with a 4.3 TBI. It was respectable. Had enough booty to take out a guy who was trying to cut me off. I think you'll be happy for driving purposes.
The interesting thing was, I also drove a 4.3 TPI S10. It seemed to have less power. That is probably to do with gearing though. I also agree on a higher (Numerical) gear. With the over-drive tranny you can run a 3.73 fine, and a 4.10 if you want the extra pep.

i had a 1986 with the 4.3 carbed and a th400 trans.. lousy mileage but it pulled and pulled alot. It wasnt the fastest truck i ever had but i towed a t bird on a trailer and a yard of rock in the truck so it should work ok

Re: 4.3 L. chevy V6 in my "82" C10
Currently have the v6 4.3 in my 86 long bed and it does the job for me. I've filled the back with more stone that I ought to and she managed fine. Have also hauled a decent sized u-haul up some pretty good hills here in central PA...not the mountains you have in colorado but probably just as steep if not more so.

Re: 4.3 L. chevy V6 in my "82" C10
thanks guys! yeah that S10 has 3.73, to bad that rear end is to small for my truck or i would swap that too. so ill probably change that as well..... how can you tell what kind of gears you have? there are some 10 bolt 3.73 in the full size trucks right? i know there are 10 bolts 3.73 in S10's and full size cars.....
