what does a-body or f-body mean?
I've been looking at control-arms and other suspension stuff....
I have noticed a lot is categorized as for a-body or f-body. are our trucks (60-up) classified as a-body, or is only for passenger cars? some suspension stuff says a-body, and then sometimes you see a grouping for trucks, so I was curious.....

It was used to classify goroups of cars the used similar parts when crossing "brand name" lines. I.E. Camaro/Firebird, the basic car was the same. They had some sheetmetal differences and trim parts were different, but the main "core" of the car was the same.

if your looking at arms you will need to keep in the year range of your truck. in the case of the trucks from 63-66 and 67-72 you can swap in the 73-87 arms and get the disc brakes with very little effort. plus that also opens you up to running 73-87 drop springs, drop spindles etc.
The other year ranges for 1/2 ton trucks are 88-98, 99-06, 07-10, maybe 11. the 3/4 and one ton trucks have some overlapping years, like Duallys and Suburbans went farther than the 1/2 ton trucks did. Thats one good thing about Generic Motors, everything is the same and lots of things interchange. |
