How Much Drop??
I'm looking at doing a camaro sub on the 58 by welding it under the existing frame.I was wanting to know how much this drops the front?I have read from 6" to 8" not planning on any more susp. mods other than this and the rear end. I have a very tight budget so I need to just build it as I can afford the I.F.S. is outta the ??Asked my local salvage yard today and they have a mid70's Z-28 for $100 is this in the ballpark? Thanks for the advice

Re: How Much Drop??
Figure that a stock Camaro sits with the bottom of the front crossmember about 6 to 6-1/2
inches off the ground with stock tires and that will give you some idea. The best advice I can offer is to set the 58 frame up at the ride height you want to end up with and set the frame level from one end to the other and then with the stub on a block under the center that holds it at it's stock ride height mate the two up. There are a lot of threads on here about doing the subframes an one on the HAMB that has become standard reference on the net for putting a subframe under one of those trucks. Study what Lux Blue posted here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=148978 and bookmark that thread for reference. That will pretty well walk you through it. The way he shows gives right at a seven inch drop with stock Camaro springs. Last edited by mr48chev; 12-21-2010 at 01:05 AM. |

Re: How Much Drop??
It should have a very nice stance. My buddy did the same thing you are describing and his truck looked very nice. Over the course of 2 yrs he bought a little here& there, and it is bagged with drop spindles. His front bumper sits about 1/2" from the ground when he deflates his bags.
As far as the price of 100.00. That sounds great. If you want to see a glimpse of it, it is in last months" classic trucks" magazine it is the silver 1956 fleetside (actually a 59). It is next to my very close buddies 1956 red and white chevy panel. Posted via Mobile Device
