Best bolt-on carb & manifold set-up?
My original carb is worn and in need of a replacement. What's the best bolt-on carb & manifold replacement for my engine, a 1969 350 SB original with smog pump. I'm looking for good gas mileage and good performance. I'd like a carb that come pre-tweeked, I just want to bolt it on and not have to do alot of adjusting.

Check with the carb/manifold makers to see what they would recomend.Make sure you have as much info as possible to give them so they can match your set-up for best results.Keep in mind that some of the performance parts mail order houses will sell you a cam/carb/manifold set-up for about the same as a carb/manifold.

I'd go with the edelbrock performer EPS intake . Its got the square bore flange and doesnt need an adaptor to use edelbrock or holley carbs like the performer does. That is if you want to use a square bore flange carb. If you want a spreadbore carb that runs great out of the box and gets good mileage I'd go with the 4175 holley. Summit has them for $309. With that carb you can use a standard performer manifold or your stock manifold without an adaptor. Plus the 4175 bolts up the the original Q jet fuel line and features secondaries you can tune for even better mileage.
A lot of people like edelbrocks. A lot dont. I don't. Theyre awful on hills ( especially if you park on one like I do ) and they honestly dont get very good gas mileage.

If you're looking for good fuel mileage and good performance, a nice Edelbrock Performer manifold, topped with a properly setup Quadrajet, you'll have it made.

intake/carb
I would for a stock everyday driver would recommend going with a performer or performer RPM intake and sticking with an out of the box edelbrock 1407 carb. (600cfm w/ electric choke). For out of the box reliability you will not beat the edelbrock, and at most local parts stores you can score one for around 209.00. Just my .02 worth

I just bought the (2701) edelbrock performer EPS intake and the edelbrock (1405) carboretor "Man. choke . I'm going to put the choke under the dash but I think the 69 has a place right in your dash? Have not completed the job yet. All the parts and gaskets cost about $430.00

By the way 69 Xcamper, If you bought just the edelbrock speadbore #1901 carburetor it would cost as much as the new intake and carb I just mentioned.
