Kick Panel vents

I bought a pair of kick panel vents and installed them and they fit the 62 chev C-10 just fine. When I bought 60-66 kick panels with speakers from Brothers parts the access hole is an oval shape and as the picture shows the vents I have are rectangular. Does anyone know if there is a variation.

I spoke to Brothers Parts today and they confirmed that they have only the oval shaped. Panels and did not know whether what I have is unique. I would still appreciate a comment. I don't have access to a 60 - 66 truck to look at.

The ones in my '66 look like yours, only with the pull vent. How much did you pay for the panels? I made mine for about $20 and a couple hours.



<edit> I built them to fit a 6.5" mid and aimed the speaker slightly up and towards you. The magnet fits in the hole for the vent and there is plenty of room to hit the dimmer switch.

My vents on my 66 are shaped just like yours.

Jimmy Dean, I paid I think about $200 for the upgraded speakers and panels. Maybe there is a difference between the earlier years and 66. If there is I hope it is as simple as finding new covers and not having to change out the entire vent.

Wow, for about $50 you could just make some. It's basically the same thing as making the fan shroud in another thread. It's even easier if it's a flat panel. I used a little body filler to smooth out the fiberglass, then I will be covering then panels in tan leather to match the rest of the interior.

The hole that is in the kick panel of the truck is an oval. Have you taken out the vent sub-assemblies to see if they will fit into the plastic panels? There are only about (6) screws that hold them in, remove the screws and then pull them out of the panel.

Lakeroadster, I am not at home now for a couple of days. When I get home I will pull the rectangular covers off and note the shape of the actual vents. Mine have a pull cable that are attached under the dash on both sides and you pull the knob to open and close. Hopefully it is just a matter of a different oval diffuser.

The vents in the first picture are the early design, and the Lakeroadster units were in the later cabs. I don't know for sure, but think the early type with the covers only came on the 1960-62 trucks. They may have also been used on the 63's, but they made a lot of cost cutting changes for 63 and I "assume" the newer design without the covers and cables were probably introduced in 63.

Mark, it looks like if I use the ones I have (1962), I will be building something custom to fit the rectangular shape. I would guess I can use the ones I bought as a templet for the shape and dimension and then cut the access and install the speakers..

The '60-'62 vents are cable operated, and have the slotted covers on them. The '63-'66's use the more oval looking ones, like lakeroadster posted pics of.
