Re: Performance Online POL ::anyone used this kit?

I just installed the 'conversion' kit on my '66. It uses original balljoints and tie rods as I felt mine were in decent condition. It's basically the same kit, however.

It fit, went together well, and was shipped quickly. It came with all parts needed. No complaints what so ever.

Re: Performance Online POL ::anyone used this kit?

man thats a nice looking kit - thats where i want to be too - im trying to figure out if its even worth trying to find a Donor 73-87 truck and do the swap but i figure any donor i get ill need to go through that front end with a compelte bushing replacement anyway - along with getting aftermarket spindles it seems $$ wise itd be a wash

although that still leaves M/C, Booster, and Lines to procure..........

Im guessing either way the whole conversion is gonna be around $1000, yea?

Re: Performance Online POL ::anyone used this kit?

blackmopar: Depends on the kit you get; 5-lug verses 6, powerbooster or not. I went with manual brakes and I believe the conversion kit is cheaper as it does not replace the tie rods/balljoints. If you need these items, the kit may be a bargain.

Also have to figure in brake lines/fittings/fluid and cleaning if you're so inclined to do so.(Cleaning, that is!)

Re: Performance Online POL ::anyone used this kit?

Hey Thunder, I don't have anything to add about the kit except; have you checked on shipping yet?
I see you live just south of me, and I know from experience that shipping charges from west to east are a lot more than east to west. I have no idea why. And that's a pretty heavy box.
I bought from Brothers (in CA) once without even thinking about the shipping. My mistake, but when I questioned them about it they told me about the W>E shipping issue. At first I didn't believe it, but I confirmed with UPS that it's true.

thunder71's fender to tire gap will be gone with the spindles (I'm assuming the 2.5'' drop). I dont know if you'll be able to use the 3'' coils.

Here is mine with a 1'' shorter coil minus 1 coil cut. 235/70/15's

I guess I didnt type out a complete thought........yes, you can use the coils; I have the same set-up on my shortbed 2.5'' spindle+3'' coil for drop. The problem potentially could be the tire/wheel fitment in the front. Unless you get the high $$ modular spindles the standard drop spindles push the stance out wider in front. My combo pictured above has the tire right above the fender lip with the Rally's having 4.25'' backspace. You will be an inch lower; there is no doubt it will look kicka$$() but you may not be able to turn or if you turn and drive into a rising slope you may peel your fender lip out.

Again, it depends on the backspace and wheel tire combo.

Re: Performance Online POL ::anyone used this kit?

i just went out & checked the distance now & with a straight edge on the outside of the tire to the most inner side of the fender where the roll is is 1"... so your saying the dropped spindle will move the tire outwards? i hope not much...

ECE will tell you that the dropped spindles/disc brake will move your hub center line out 3/4 inch per side....

A 2" drop coil with 1 full coil cut will equal a 4" drop coil.

I would install your 3" drop coils and see where it sets.
You can always run a shorter tire.

Re: Performance Online POL ::anyone used this kit?

I want to see how you come out after the install. I too have the 3/5 CPP drop and want to go with 2 1/2 " drop spindles. I am running 235/75 15 on my ride right now but will most likely be running 15x 8 rallys with 235/60 15 up front and 275/60 15 out back. The stance on my truck does not seem as low in the rear as yours Thunder, maybe because she is a long bed. I have talked with a lot of people about the brake conversion as mentioned most kits move your wheel anywhere from 3/4 to 1 inch wider
