what replacement radiator for '72 C-20
Hello, I just pulled a friends '72 C-20 out of storage where it has been for quiet a number of years. I joined this forum for help.
The truck was running fine when parked and I am going to make the neccesary repairs to make it roadworthy again. While replacing the water pump, I pulled the radiator to have it pressure checked and cleaned. The shop will check it next week but said it may need to be replaced. My question is; If I need a new one, what brand and/or supplier do you guys recommend? Thanks 1969 Chevelle (driver) 489 cid 10.74 @122 Last edited by Frankie Crooks; 01-14-2011 at 06:14 PM. |

Welcome Frankie!!! You will find that you have an illness if you hang out here for long. It's like a disease, you never know you have it until it's diagnosed. Most of us are still in the "Denial" stage.
As for Radiators, almost any parts store, online parts supplier or radiator shop can fix you up.I like the oem "Modine" brand but they are a bit hard to find(around here anyway). When shopping be aware that some replacements have plastic tanks.About the best price I've seen lately is around $200,so that's about what you can expect.Keep in mind that the 6 cyl radiators are 2 in narrower than the V-8.Swap to a V-8 if needed. No one seems to stock the 6 cyl and if you order it the price is arounsd $375.The replacement mounts and such are much cheaper.

Thanks, it is for a 350 engine and auto transmission.
Too late on the warning. I've had the disease since chilhood. Dad had a '65 GTO that I rode along with listening to Hank Sr and Conway. My 1st truck was a '68 GMC. Have had many toys over the years and now just the Chevelle. But I really want a nice driver '72 swb fleetside. And, I definitely want an original type radiator w/o plastic tanks.

I ordered mine about 3 weeks a go from O'Reileys for about $170 ,looked like the original 4 core brass and copper .They had it the day after .Dont remember the brand but made in Mexico ,seems to be good quality.
