Thinking out loud about Blazers and factory tachs

It's the weekend so I thought I would start a little discussion thread just for the heck of it...

Is it just me or is a tach MORE rare to find in a Blazer than a truck? I'm talking factory optioned of course. It seems that way to me. In my mind a tach in those days was something that a car/truck with standard transmission, or a PTO, or a "sport package" would get. The majority of 69-72 Blazers are 4x4 automatic passenger vehicles which doesn't fall into any of the above categories. Is that the reason for not many of them getting a tach? Or am I seeing it wrong?

Anyway, thats been floating around in my head for a while. Please feel free to throw in your 2 cents.

Re: Thinking out loud about Blazers and factory tachs

I believe the overall tally of them is low just due to them not being standard. My 71 Jimmy 4X4 has one because Dad special ordered it that way. There are tons of them available from shops/ebay so to add one its easy.

One thing I've noticed with mine, is how delayed it is. With mild revving it can peg out above 5K, but no way I was revving that high in reality. Maybe the needle needs a counterweight. lol My newer cars with factory tachs dont do that, but of course they're also not 40 years old.

Just my thought.

From the several I have seen, I think you are right. Tach wasn't a very popular option to order. I haven't seen any that had one on the SPID. Tilt column seems to be more prevalent though. Almost every unmolested Blazer I have seen has had a factory tilt in it. I would have thought that too would have been a rare option.

I've seen far more tach equipped trucks than tilt trucks, but I think they're pretty much equally rare.
