Re: Time to Vote - TOTM
A couple days to go yet, but I find it interesting that the members who voted for a 60-66 truck have chosen my 65 Suburban more than twice as often as my 66 C-10. Given the outline of the contest (survivors), I thought the 8900 mile truck would kick the burb's a**... Well, guess not.
Perhaps voters are unaware of it's history and ultra low miles, or maybe this is really just a beauty contest, and the plain-jane work truck thing just has less sex appeal? No matter, all the trucks are worthy. Don't forget to vote for your fav! |

Re: Time to Vote - TOTM
They're both awesome trucks. Either way, good luck. Don't forget that there's many times more 67-72 members here than 60-66 so that may be the reason for the Burb getting so many more votes, and the reason you should be honored getting so many votes.

Oh I am, don't get me wrong. I just thought the truck would be ahead of the suburban.

Re: Time to Vote - TOTM
I think the 'burb would be the rarest of the two, although I dont really know!! The 'burb also has parts that are not available so it's harder to get one that is complete...my thinking anyway.

Re: Time to Vote - TOTM
You are correct. As far as I know, the production total on 65 suburbans with a tailgate is less than 5000 (and about the same number of barn doors). I'm guessing pickups would be close to a hundred times that.

Re: Time to Vote - TOTM
If the TOTM was decided on points judging it would be difficult to find a higher scoring vehicle for authenticity than your 8900 mile essentially new pickup. And there are a lot of other very nice low mileage trucks entered this month, some a bit newer, or perhaps not as pure stock with no changes at all.
But this recognition isn’t about show judging, it’s about whatever pleases the most people that happen to take the time to look at the entrants each month. I nominated your pickup, and intended to vote for it because it’s the epitome of a museum piece. Ironically, when it was new I would have found it completely ordinary and boring. If I owned it in the 60’s I’d have made multiple changes and it would never have survived in its current condition, which is what makes it so appealing now. Anything so common surviving all these decades, untouched, naturally transforms into an objet d’art, deserving of admiration and preservation. Doubly ironic is that I voted for the suburban instead because it just appeals to me, and this is a model I would never have any interest in owning. It displays a flair and stately appeal that grabs attention. Adding in the rarity of the undamaged tailgate, liftgate, and interior pieces swayed my vote. |

Re: Time to Vote - TOTM
Many thanks to those who picked my Suburban as their favorite. Glad to see a relative newcomer can be accepted and rewarded like a long-time regular. Also a big thanks to the staff for choosing "survivors" as this months contest. Lots and lots of cool modified and slammed rigs on this site, but don't forget us original guys are always lurking too, Thanks again everybody!
