57 4 link setup
This is the cross member that I am working with.it puts a bind on the top shock mount.what do you guys think should be done here?

Short of re-installing the cross-member or drilling a new hole in it that's at 90 degrees to the shock I don't think there is a lot you can do. I think the new hole is the easiest way to go.
You may be able to get a bracket that goes around the top of the shock and just turn it 90 degrees. I'll see if I can find a pic to show you what I mean. Kim Last edited by Kim57; 02-07-2011 at 04:33 PM. |

Here's a pic of what I mean. Your shock would attach to it and then it would bolt to your cross-member. It should take care of the bind and it can be set at what ever angle you need it.

IMHO he will still have a problem with all the leverage put on the top shock mount with such a long bolt.

When I designed my mounts, I didn’t want two single shear mounting points such as yours (and those that come with most 4 link kits) I made the top mounts double shear (such that the bolt is supported on both sides of the shock bushing). And the bottom spacer I designed also acts as a double shear connection to the shock that in itself bolts to the rear end bracket. If you have access to a welder I would at least consider welding in a new upper cross member such that you can custom fit the angle of the shock mount to match that of the lower one. I would also highly recommend mounting the upper shock mount in double shear.

No limit offers a very nice upper shock mount that would eliminate your leverage problem with the upper bolt, it would correct the angle of your upper shock mount, and are very easy to install but do require welding. Ill post some pictures tomorrow.

just bend the upper shock mount bolt.
I bent my bottom shock mount with a cheater bar until it was parallel with the top mount. It looks like with the amount of space between the top of the crossmember and top of the frame rail, you should be able to take it out, do some trimming on it, raise it and tilt it, where the shock mount will be level. You could make a new crossmmber with new flanges on the ends that you can bolt into the existing rivet holes. |
