Powersteering and Dropmember issue

Anyone had and issue mating the high pressure power steering host from mustang rack to the GM pump? I tightened the fitting from the borgeson kit I got, but it seems like the flare fitting never makes complete contact and is not tight. I am afraid if I fill the pump full it will leak all over... trying to get this buttoned up so I can be done with the frontend.

Here is an iphone video of my issue.

here is a pic of the original hose, it has a small area befor the flare that drops down into the fitting hole.

Re: Powersteering and Dropmember issue

That's definitely gonna be too loose, and have a leak. It should tighten up to where the hose end is firm and doesn't twist or move.

Do me a favor and give Borgeson a call on the hoses. It will be easier to speak direct with them as far as trying to determine the possible problem/soultion. If nothing obvious is found, we will send out another hose kit and start there.

Here is Borgeson's number: Phone (860) 482-8283
The part number for the hoses is: 925102

Let me know what develops.

Nate

Re: Powersteering and Dropmember issue

New hose looks like inverted flare. Old hose looks like it should use "O" ring on stub of hose for seal.

There was a small oring on the old hose, but it was brittle and broke apart.

Re: Powersteering and Dropmember issue

You can also change the fitting in your pump to the older inverted flare type, or get a different hose.

Re: Powersteering and Dropmember issue

I think I got it. The kit came with that fitting you mentioned, but when I tried to put it in the pump, it was really tight and someone mentioned it was not needed. I did not want to get it stuck if it did not go in the pump.
Last night I went ahead and tapped it into the hole with a similar size piece of steel and it seems to fit tight now. Everything is back on and hope to have the front end all buttoned up this weekend and test for leaks.

Thanks for the help!

It's all a learning process...

Re: Powersteering and Dropmember issue

I was told the GM. PS pump should have a valve installed in it if it is used on rack steering boxes. If so were doe's some one get one? And were does it go in the pump? And were do you buy one, and what is the part number? Thanks.

My Borgeson kit included the fitting, which I assume is the valve you are talking about.
