Suspension Drops
Hello everyone. I've been looking thru alot of different threads here and there sure is alot of great information and I thank all who contributed.
I don't have my (father/son) project truck yet but I will very soon and I was wondering something regarding suspension drops, front suspension in particular. As far as keeping the stock front axle, is there any advantage in using drop leaf springs over purchasing a dropped axle? Project vehicle specs would be say, a 1949 3100. My plans for the vehicle would also be a disk brake conversion (11" rotors) and 17x8 wheels. I believe both, the 'dropped' leaf springs and the dropped axle claim a 3" drop in the front. Also, anyone know if there will be issues with my intended drop & wheel combo? My apologies if this is not in the correct section. Thank you in advance. |

Re: Suspension Drops
This is a bit more of a suspension ordeal, but is also year specific, so we'll start here and if we can't get the answers we're looking for, I'll make a note to some of the suspension gurus on the site.
FWIW, I'm going with a drop axle on the front of my '54 and removing a few leaves to help improve ride. We're guestimating a 5" drop on a 15x8 wheel with power disc and 10" rotors. Nothing has been finalized yet though. The rear, we added lowering blocks, but will probably end up removing leaves as well to help improve the ride a tad and lower it a total of 5"
