Can I Dye Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel?

I bought a good Lumina steering wheel for my crew cab and it matches the red interior nicely. The handle is wearing back to black and I want to get it back to red... anyone ever dye/paint/restore them?

I found this stuff, but I only paid $15 for the wheel. Maybe it will be worth it. Also, I dont know if the Lumina wheel is real leather or vinyl... cause this stuff wont work on vinyl.

Maybe new leather all together would be better?

I would go and ask a shoemaker they deal with leather all the time

Re: Can I Dye Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel?

My 83 single cab is still in primer, but this wheel is for my crew cab. Good point though.

Re: Can I Dye Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel?

Clean it really well removing oils...dirt and such (especially any shiny stuff) and take it from there. I do agree getting leather advice particularly since you will likely want that original red sheen and have it not chip off, be protected...15 buck go for it.

Best of luck, Roger

Seen a guy do a Escalade steering wheel on fullsize chevy forum. Turned out really nice for him. Prep, prep, prep, prep and then when your done make sure you prep it. Goodluck
