Re: Big Block gurus please help

If your question is will the bare blocks interchange the answer is no;
You can however change out the whole motor.
If you just want a block they are the same from 1970 to 1990(Mark 4 motors)so there are lots around.
The mark 5 went to 1 pc crank seal(different flex plate) and different cylinder heads

Weak areas on high mileage engines are pistons,camshafts and lifters

Re: Big Block gurus please help

Are you positive its a rod knock? I had a 454 truck that suddenly developed a knock. Sounded like a rod but oil pressure was fine .I ran a little top engine cleaner through it and cleaned the combustion chambers out . Knock gone . It was a piece of carbon that had apparently attached to a piston and was smacking the head. Just a thought . There are cheaper ways to clean carbon from the chambers but this one worked.
