Question about the m1008s
I found one right in my price range, but...I'm just wondering if they would be a good first truck. Are they OK for an everyday driver? Should I worry about the diesel engine? Are they geared too low for highway driving? Thanks

Re: Question about the m1008s
In bone stock condition the M1028s and M1008s are probably not good daily drivers, you'd want a M1009. I have a M1028a1 as a 2nd truck, in stock condition. They are geared low (4:56s) usually don't have any cab insulation, have no radio or a/c, are bare bones heavy duty work trucks. Depends upon what you want your level of creature comfort to be. You can always modify some things to suit. Mine still has the stock electrical system, 24 volt starter and glow plug system. Best to read up on these on www.steelsoldiers, wealth of info there or pm me if you want. I have 3 of these at present in running condition, and use one of them on a semi-daily basis, great trucks if you know what you're in for. Looks like the one you are looking at is in ready to go condition. Good Luck.

Re: Question about the m1008s
I would not suggest one for a DD. As a project truck or a weekend runner, they're great.
It's bad enough with my 3.40 gear ratio with a 350 and a 3spd auto - I couldn't imagine with a diesel that is known for being down on power.
