What value does a BIG WINDOW add to a truck?

I'm looking at a 1961 Big window cab that is in pretty good condition has a good windshield. The guy wants a $1000 bucks for the whole truck with no title. I pretty much have what I need, but the big back window would be awesome and I wouldn't have to get my windshield replaced. I'd just do another cab swap.........ugh! Just trying to figure out what make financial sense. Both now and in the future if I were to sell it.

Thanks for any comment or thoughts on this.

I thought I saw a thread recently where someone cut out a small back window and welded in a new BBW. That may be easier than a whole cab swap.

How much work does your small back window need? If your current cab is in good shape you could sell it and recoup some of your$.

For those that prefer the big window, it’s a very unique and desirable option since relatively few were made compared to the standard small window. To me , if I was looking at identical trucks I would pay a 1000 more for a big window over a small window. I think they look better, they are much harder to find and they are an upgrade over the base model. It is akin to an SS over a non SS chevy IMO.

Im on the side of not too thrilled with BBW.
Ive owned several older chevy trucks with big back windows, and honestly, I prefer the small windows.

My reasoning, I dont like the sun baking my neck and head when its 90+ degree's and humid out.

Its just that simple. Thats my reason. Not that I wouldnt own another BBW, but I certainly wont go out of my way, or cut up and swap cabs to gain the bbw.

I love the look of the bbw, but for driving purposes wich mine was a small. kinda fish bowly in there, and yes it gets hot...but they look way cooler...


cab swap is way easier than cutt and replace. you could put your cab back on the other truck and sell it for 800.

I actually prefer the SBW because it is what I think of when I think of old trucks....but it is a PITA to see out of because of the blind spots.

I do think that the BBW looks better on fleet/wide beds. They just look out of place on steppers

Small-window cabs create a vitamin D and A shortage. Ever since I converted to a big-window on my '66 and started driving on days like today where it's climbing towards 75-degrees I've found the extra brain power causes me to wander and write run-on sentences...

So anyways here's a shot I took this morning before I rolled "Ol Blue out for a drive.

Both are fine, but personaly I like the small rear window; to me it has a hot rod look to it.

Plus Im not real big fan on doing any major chopping on a original car/truck.

Me personally, I like the BBW better just because the small looks like it is unfinished because of the way the back of the cab looks.

the big back window in my opinion adds a deluxe feel to the truck nothing like seeing one from behind going down the road

I am with the camp that likes a small back window , I think it has a cool factor to it .. I never have a problem seeing whats behind me , thats what mirrors are for ... The big one just doesnt look right to me ....

After looking and thinking about this pic, since I'm going with the step side bed, I think I'll keep the small window. Just looks a lot better

Hey neighbor. I like the small window on the stepside and the big window on the fleet. I just converted my fleetside to big window and will keep my stepside a small window. FYI, there is also another shortbed truck on Boise's craiglist for a $1000. I think it was a 63 with a title, if I remember correctly.

Well said. Small back window looks "old school", BBW looks like the current production trucks.

Here in Colorado there are a lot of trailers sitting at farms that were made out of short stepside beds. Have you looked around in the country in your area?
