Transmission Crossmember

I'm about to have my exhaust done (the right way) and i really want to replace the transmission crossmember i have with one that is more "duel exhaust friendly"
i don't want to pay a shop to route pipe over and under the crossmember i have, just not as clean looking.
i've attached a picture of what i'm after, the way the pipe is routed is exactly what i want. *thanks for letting me use your pic as an example*
what year/model trucks came with this style crossmember? i'd really like to know so i can search the juckyards high and low for one. thanks

Re: Transmission Crossmember

You can look under a 3/4 or 1 ton truck for dual hump crossmember. Trucks in the 70's and maybe early 80's had them.

Best option, make your own. I had one made for my truck. It tucks the exhaust nice up to the underside.

Re: Transmission Crossmember

i do like the look of yours a lot, but i doubt i can afford to have one made...
and i don't have the tools or skills to tackle that myself. but a few bolts on the other hand, i can handle that

Re: Transmission Crossmember

Is an old C3 Corvette (71-81) crossmember an option? They have holes in them designed for the exhaust to go through them instead of over or under. Just a thought.

Re: Transmission Crossmember

I honestly don't know... I'd have to crawl under my vette to see what the dimensions between the subframe rails are. Most vettes will be parted out before they ever see a junkyard. The Corvette forums are really helpful with guys parting them out though...

Re: Transmission Crossmember

the early squares had a flat trans crossmember with small dimples to allow the exhaust to run under. Take a peek under a 73, 74, 75 or so 1/2 ton 2wd...they have them.

It did, thank you very much. I am going to section that one to lower my trans a little bit. If that does the trick, then the one IN my truck will be for sale.

Re: Transmission Crossmember

I bought one for my truck in a junkyard. It came off a 70s heavy half or Big10. I have had it for 4 or 5 years, and it still isn't under my truck. I just moved it from the old house to the new one over the weekend...

Re: Transmission Crossmember

I noticed you still have the long tube headers. I found that changing to a mid length header I was able to route the pipes above the crossmember with no problem. killerpickup
