Thinking about installing one my truck is only going to driven on nice days so not concerned so much with rain. On the inside of cab seems to be the prob with the top being wavy can you weld in a piece of straight sheet metal then put it in. Any pics would be nice with some advice

Re: sunroofs
Have you thought about possibly a sliding rage top?

Re: sunroofs
I have a sun roof in my wife's my car, I have had them on two other cars and on one of my past trucks, I was really excited when I bought each of these vehicles, the sun roofs were actually a deciding factor when I bought them. After I had them for a while the thrill wore off and I don't think I opened any of them more than once or twice. The one I had in my old truck actually sucked because even though it was tinted, it didn't have a sliding shade to block the sun out, I eventually took the glass out and painted it so the sun wouldn't glare through it. I would vote no sun roof.
Posted via Mobile DeviceAs for your question, the one I had in my truck had a rubber seal on the inside that conformed to the corrugations on the inside ceiling, it fit nicely and looked factory. I don't know what brand it was but I'm sure you could find one the would have a seal similar. Last edited by AirSpeed; 03-13-2011 at 12:37 AM. Reason: More |

Up north here where we drive on the frozen lakes 3 months out of the year those are referred to as "escape hatches".

Re: sunroofs
I don't like them because they serve no purpose, not the aftermarket ones anyway. The aftermarket sunroofs only pop up, they don't slide back and create that convertible like feel, you can pop the glass out on some but that's a pain in the butt. Like I said, I have a stock one in my wife's car, I've had a couple other cars with them and one truck with an aftermarket unit and I never opened any of them more than a couple times. They just werent as exciting as I thought they would be.

I personally love sun roofs, especially tinted.

Re: sunroofs
sunroof brands come and go . if you ever brake the glass or have problems with the hardware you might have to cut the hole bigger to replace it with another one .i dont like them and have tried to talk customers out of them . glad we dont install them here.

Re: sunroofs
I installed a JC Whitney sun roof in my truck over 23 years ago and have not had any problems with leaks. Kept the truck in the garage for the last 10 years. I wish now that I could take it out and cover it up but I think it would be very involved, so until I have a problem I guess I will keep it.
So my vote would be not to do it even though I have one.

Re: sunroofs
I had one in the 48 at one time but on a 67/72 it would be the fastest way to reduce the value of the truck outside of wrecking it that I could think of. Around here it's almost hard to give an older truck with a sunroof away as most of them leak and if they don't they will sooner or later.

Re: sunroofs
OK, I am finally getting a chance to post! My Dad put one in our truck around 1975 or so. It stuck up from the roof line about an inch! So, when we redone the truck, we had a delima. We decided to just buy a low profile one. It looks perfect and I actually get a lot of questions and comments. Here it is...
