LSX swap question

well i ave a question price wise on the ls swap. im trying to get a loan for $2000. and im wondering if that would cover a fuel injected swap. in my 82 swb id like a 6.0. maybe with some goodies but i would even go with a 5.3 with some goodies.

Re: LSX swap question

Have you sourced a motor/tranny? Once you have that price then we can answer your question.

Re: LSX swap question

Get the best one you can afford, meaning low mileage and complete with accessories. A tranny would be nice but you can get away with using your 3 speed auto if you have to.

I dont think you can get a 6.0l and all the stuff you will need under $2k. what are you wanting to do? you want a mean street runner or an efficient daily driver?

Re: LSX swap question

Take one step back; do not get a loan to do vehicle mods. I'm not gonna tell you what to do, but I really suggest that this isn't the best option. I had a pal do this to do bags on his s10 when we were younger. Costs crept up, and he had to pay interest etc. He sold the truck when he lost his job and was still paying off the bags.

Re: LSX swap question

your not gonna get any goodies with that money. it cost close to that if not over just to do stock swap. my budget was about 4000 and its gonna be closer to 5500. just something to think about. i would hate for you to get a loan and still come up short of getting it running.

Re: LSX swap question

I started off with a goal of 3k, but I'm looking at right about 5k for all the little stuff that's adding up. That's for. 6.0 with a cam swap, using the existing tranny. There's quite a but of that money ties up in having to have some of the work done for me. It just depends on how much you can do yourself. I can only hope it's worth it, but I keep hearing it is. Good luck!

Re: LSX swap question

If you ask me, I would buy the motor/trans and sit on them for a little bit, slowly buying parts and pieces along with knowledge. I agree with someone b4 me, dont borrow money to do the swap, just do it part by part, Harnalien has done that and I bet it makes the lil add ons a little easier to take.
