Thoughts on this 1951
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/2266020937.html
My search continues and this truck looks intriguing. Any thoughts comments? Doesn't look like there is too much info on the build-chasis used, etc. Thoughts are much appreciated!!! Mike |

That is a stock frame. See the stock ebrake hoop. front looks like a dropped stock axle. Leaf springs on all 4 corners. nice looking truck! tiny pictures can be very decieving though.

Re: Thoughts on this 1951
Prices are all over on these trucks it seems, but with a stock frame it seems 23k is high-thoughts on a fair value?

Re: Thoughts on this 1951
It really depends on what you like... Prices are all over, because quality and taste are all over.
If it were me, i would be more drawn to it than a sub frame clipped truck or an s-10 swap. Period correct traditional cars don't go out of style like street rods do. Its all about personal preference and what its worth to you. One thing you know is that you don't have some failed abortion going on up front. If the straight axle is done right it should be very drivable. Those pictures are tiny, without seeing the truck who knows...? Could have a $20,000 paint job/ body work or a 1000 earl scheib special. If the engine and tranny is solid you've got anywhere from 3-8K in those new. If i was in the market, I wouldn't have a problem paying 20k for a truck i liked if it is my taste, as advertised, really clean work and no surprises. It sounds like you are really new to the hobby, no worries... My advice would be to scour the internet, find a local car club, meet some knowledgeable people/ shop owners and learn before you jump in. Take some of your new buds along to check out what you're looking at. It will payoff in the long run. Last edited by PurdueSD; 03-18-2011 at 09:58 AM. |

Re: Thoughts on this 1951
Just my opinion but i dont think thats a $23,000 dollar truck. it looks like a long bed for 1 and i think who ever built it must have been colored blind. yellow motor, light blue chassis and grey body??? that a first. its easy to slap one of these trucks together with mixed matched parts and put it on craiglist as a show truck. you can build one yourself for way less money than that. and know what it has in it. if this really is a $23,000 truck than the owner should have receipts to back it up. again just my opinion.

I don't think it's worth 23,000 but then again it's not my truck. The mismatch colors and stock frame aren't that impressive, I would look around before investing that kind of dough i think you could do a lot better. just my 2 cents

Re: Thoughts on this 1951
Hey Mike, craigslist and auto trader are great places to start. you can also look at car shows, auto swap meets, ebay, auctions like barret jackson or local ones, most auctions you can view and bid online and sometimes just driving around and looking is a good way to find one especially rural ares. i know of at least three trucks in my area that have been sitting on peoples property just waisting away. most people will sell if its the right price and time. it also depends on what your looking for? a daily driver, weekend driver, trailor quenn show truck that never gets driven, original condition or modern built pro mod. also how much your willing to spend will determine what you will get. you can pick up most project trucks from anywhere from a case of beer up to $1000 bucks. now when i say project i mean usually no motor or trans, or motor and trans dont work. usually rust in cab corners and floors and cowls, body banged up and original suspension. if you dont have time or knowledge or tools to do the work yourself than you can pick one up thats been done alllready from $5,000 to $20,000 depending where you look. just remember you get what you pay for and allways ask for reiceipts of work done, research who did the work, how reputable they are, and a clean title. like i said before anyone can put one together and slap it on craiglist. you dont want to buy something thats unsafe and believe me there are alot of people out there doin things that they shouldnt be. always check the front suspension out. this seems to be where everyone gets creative. if it aint done right and level and square it will never drive right and could kill you or other people on road. you can also buy every part new for these trucks from frames to complete all steel cabs to everything you need to build it from scratch. LMC truck built one like this. you can look it up on chop, cut and rebuild, the tv show on speed network. they did a great show on how to build one. sorry for being so long, but just trying to give you some insight. the last words of wisdom i could say is be patient. when you find the right one you will know it. i would pass on the $23,000 dollar one. for that kind of dough you could pay someone to build you a nice truck. hope this helps. if you got any other questions you can pm me or just post it, this site is full of very skilled builders..... Troy

23k! wanna buy a duck!!! head down to the portland swapmeet in a few weeks and your gonna find plenty of trucks to help you get idea of the market. find somebody and take a drive in a stock one: that will give you some idea of what these really are, old trucks that ride like old trucks with a splash of bling!

It isn't a $23,000 truck. It's a $40,000 truck. It says so in his ad!
Look on the classifieds here, the HAMB, Stovebolt.com, and craigslist. |

I'm looking for a truck I can rely on and drive on the weekends or throw some little league equipment in the back and take it to a practice every now and then. I also want it to have some power and obviously be safe/built well. |
