Taking my truck to Junior Prom! I need some advice!
Prom is tomorrow night and I'm taking the ol' square!! I'm excited. I have full access to a detail shop at my work. My truck is originally Apple Red.. But now is more of a faded red/pink. We have all sorts of goodies here and I can order stuff. What can I do to make it shine? It has no clearcoat I believe. The paint is rather rough in texture. Would buffing/handwaxing make it shine? I tried handwaxing an area but there was a white circle around the area that I waxed... But if I waxed all of it there would be no stopping point, so no white edges... Right?
Can someone give me some advice? I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device

Put a camper shell on it, and throw a mattress in there.

Hahahaha. You got a bench seat, bring blankets..
Perfect It III machine glaze, finish off with a hand glaze, then wax. Truck will shine like a new paint job.

Re: Taking my truck to Junior Prom! I need some advice!
I am no expert in either Proms or paint finishes, but I would try a small out of the way area with a light coat of rubbing compound. Then cover it with any paste wax - turtle wax is OK. For scratches, try a product called Scratch Out - with elbow grease and repeated applications it will get out some bad scratches - but go gentle with this one as well.
Rubbing compoud will actually take paint off, so you need to be careful. But if you still have a decent layer of paint left on the vehicle, it will bring back the color. You are going to do this all tonight? |

OH ya, to add on to my comment, go easy with both of the glaze compounds. They actually remove paint, along with the contaminants and oxidation in the paint.
When using a machine, keep it moving, don't slow down on any area. The machine will take off paint easily, no matter what compound you use.

Bring a date, not a truck. Dance and have a good time and don't worry about your ride. That's what I wish I would have done.

Re: Taking my truck to Junior Prom! I need some advice!
I'm going to be painting this truck this summer... do you think that waxing it will soak into the bare metal and give me a hard time when I go to paint it?

You won't have any issues with this as long as the body shop preps the metal properly. 99.9% of paint problems can be avoided with proper prep work.

skip the prom and get her to rub out your paint for you
if your planning on painting it DONT WAX IT get some good rubbing compound and rub it out your shops detailer should have some good 3m rubbing compound if you wax it your painter will be cussing you from the time you pull in the drive way to the point of taking your money wax causes lots of extra work and problems

Re: Taking my truck to Junior Prom! I need some advice!
Had an awesome time. Turned out I didn't buff the truck... I woke up yesterday, looked outside, and it was snowing. I just detailed the inside.
Had a blast at prom! Thanks guys! I'll try to buff it later.

Been there, done that. Mattress would have been better! Last thing on my mind at the time though.

Disconnect the fuel gauge, pull over at the park to look at the moon and stars, then do the "oh no! I'm outta gas! We'll just have to stay the night here til somebody rescues us in the morning" routine. Works every time. I'm 38 and it still works on the wife
