8.875 12 bolt HELP
OK so, cruising season is just around the corner and there will be no cruising for me unless I can get a rear end up and going in my 79 C-10.
Here are my options: 12 Bolt open 3.08 currently in the truck, gears are shot, ready to be rebuilt. I read online that the 12 bolt open rears had a smaller pinion shaft than a factory posi. 12 Bolt factory Posi that came in the truck ( tore it up in high school burning up tires..... imagine that ), been sitting for years not sure if its even good, I've had it stored outdoors for the past 10 years... guessing its scrap...but if not is it the better choice? 14 Bolt 6 lug from a early 90's light duty 3/4 ton. Its really clean inside, and just sitting on my garage floor. The kicker on it is this, I got it to modify for the 79, and since then I've purchased a 94 K1500 that I did an LS swap on and using it to pull my trailer, so thinking the 94 should be the home of this bolt in ready 14 bolt.... I'm at a loss... I start shopping for axle parts and start second guessing what I need. Never done an axle. I have friends who have done them, so not concerned about getting it right the first time. Just at a loss of what to do. I spent the entire morning at the forgotten bone yard we visit that still has a few 73-87's there. I checked roughly a dozen 12 and 10 bolts today and ALL OPEN DIFF's! There was one axle I still may have the guy cut out for me. It was a 84 Suburban with an open 3.73, I could put a posi unit in that to get my kicks... and I'm a thirfty shopper, so just tossing insane cash at it isn't in the works
