New aftermarket stereo installation -- dash uncut ....
I finally mounted my new Pioneer stereo in my square using a marine stereo housing and bracket. Mounted the stereo to the metal dash support just under the ash tray. Just needed to drill two holes for the bracket. I decided to do this rather than cut out the dash where the OEM radio is mounted. I kept the OEM radio for aesthetics.
What do you honestly think about the under dash mount? Stupid looking or ....

Re: New aftermarket stereo installation -- dash uncut ....
I like it! I'd be tempted to redrill the bracket to raise the radio slightly closer to the dash.
Might be a good option for me. do that with my radio, and have a place for my diesel gauges after the install. Edit, On second thought that puts the radio right where my shifter is. Haha.

I don't think it looks stupid at all. I might just go pick one of those up to drop in my 62 T-bird so I can avoid putting an aftermarket stereo in her.

If you decide to go with the marine mount, see pic for details. I researched marine mounts and all are not created equal. You pay for what you get and the cheaper ones have defective mount covers. The mount I chose is incredible and the cover/hinge is solid. Perfect closure, no gaps. Cost is between $60-$70 and can be purchased on ebay or special ordered from marine shops. Good luck with your mount. Post some pics when you're done.

Saw that cup holder and went into instant stalk mode. Searched your posts to find it is from LMC. That is a trick cup holder!

It works well for my GPS and my coffee cup but just overload it by supersizing your drinks, else snap goes the ash tray.

Nice. I looked at the same stereo mounting bracket that you used but I also wanted a face cover. This could still be an option for me if the following face cover fits your stereo bracket. This is a marine cover from the same company. Not sure how it attaches but I assume it is screwed into the brackets. Also need to the dimensions of the bracket for fitment.

Re: New aftermarket stereo installation -- dash uncut ....
I definitely like the tissue dispenser better.
I just cut up my dash and put it in the stock location. I know, ruins the classic look and all, but my truck (aesthetically) is a rusty POS so i'm not worried about it so much. Tissue box looks clean and much more like it belongs than the marine radio housing. That's just my $.02 worth. I'm definitely not trying to bash your ideas cause it's totally something I would have done if I didn't have a CB there. Just saying if you're going for looks, that tissue dispenser looks so much cleaner and less out of place, to me. |

Re: New aftermarket stereo installation -- dash uncut ....
Maybe it's a stupid question, but has anyone ever installed a deck on the face of the dash where the a/c vent is?
