99-02 cruise control

How do I hook up the cruise on this thing? I have an old stalk but not sure if it will work.

I saw what LS1tech has and that is really confusing.

Re: 99-02 cruise control

the factory switch works if the switch is good. just get a schematic of the cruise control system and wire away

Re: 99-02 cruise control

Clyde,

This doesn't answer your question but here is how I did my stalk.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=324015

I have not been able to get my cruise to work on my 2005 LS2 swap. I think the issue is the following. There seems to be a safety feature that prevents the cruise from engaging if the e-brake is on. Similarly, you can't do a case learn if the e-brake is off. The problem with the E40 computer that I am using is that there is no direct connection to tell the computer the state of the e-brake. Turns out the BCM puts the e-brake status on the low speed serial bus and the ECM reads that. So I am stumped for the moment, but haven't given up. Same problem for the AC request signal, it is put on the serial bus by another controller.

I think your case will work OK. Just get a service manual from a vehicle that uses your computer and wire it up that way like 87chevy says.

Good luck,

TR

Re: 99-02 cruise control

Cruise Module...

Pin A. Cruise switch on/off
Pin B. Cruise switch set/coast
Pin C. Cruise switch resume/accel
These 3 wire direct to the cruise stalk in the column

Pin D. Brake signal, (open with brake applied) Tie onto the wire for the TCC brake switch signal, Should be a purple wire.
Pin E. Ground
Pin F. Ignition hot
Pin G. Stop Lamp signal, (closed with brakes applied) Tie onto the wire that gets hot with the brakes applied at the brake switch, Should be a white wire.
Pin J. Cruise engaged signal, Wire direct to Pin 13 of the red connector on the PCM.
Pin K. VSS signal, wire direct to Pin 50 of the red connecter on the PCM.

What color & how many wires are coming from your existing cruise stalk?

Re: 99-02 cruise control

I currently have one off a 72 truck, so I think there is 4, but I am out looking for a stalk that has the eye hole for my stock automatic column, I saw where Rostra has one, would that work better?

Rostra Cruise Control Switch 250-3020

Re: 99-02 cruise control

Clyde, thanks for the Rostra web site. This gives me hope to put cruise control on my 2008 5.3L. Looks like they have plug and play kits for individual years. What a great find!!!

Your very welcome, I may end up going that way also. but I want to attempt to go with the stock ( hopefully cheaper) route for now.

Re: 99-02 cruise control

Guys,

I tried to use a Rostra switch for the stock cruise but it didn't work like the stock one. So I had to find a junk yard one from a chevy.

So if you need a Rostra switch I can fix you up.

Re: 99-02 cruise control

Clyde,

I think most of the later model control stalks work the same for cruise.

See the link I posted above. My stalk came from an early 2000's GM. I got it on ebay. The first one didn't function and the seller replaced it with another one. I ground off the wiper / washer tang.

Re: 99-02 cruise control

the switch probally has 4 pins. I am almost sure that they are the same wire color as the diagram posted above too, thats how I wired mine up and it worked fine.
Hey TR, have you tried posting up on hptuners to see if they have a work around for the serial a/c request?.... like in the case of one of my "wants" i was able to turn the tow/haul serial request into a momentary ground signal to operate the mode. Wired the switch to one of the pins on the pcm that said NOT USED, and worked like a champ.

Rostra Cruise Control Switch 250-3020

A 72 column should have a (early style) stalk like this? That bolts direct to the turn signal switch.

The later (quick change) style looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-1...item1e5b7bec13

Thanks for the tip 87. I use HPTuners. I searched but have not posted.
That would be really trick if one of the unused pins is setup for the ac request.

Re: 99-02 cruise control

I'm going to assume that by 99-02 you mean DBC? Regardless, they both use the same switch. Look at this thread, you'll see the lever I'm using, and how I modified it. The Rostra and Dakota Digital switches are normally closed switches and you need to use relays to reverse them or find a normally open switch, like a stock GM. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=395093
I have some of these levers if yor interested.

Re: 99-02 cruise control

I'm a little confused about something. I got under the dash of my 86 suburban to try and map out the cruise control switches and I find one switch that is for the tail lights and one with a vacuum hose on it. do I replace the vacuum switch thing with a senor that tells the cruise that the brakes not pressed? or does the switch for the tail lights do both jobs

You don't need the vacuum switch. You are correct, the brakelight switch will do both, it will have two connectors on it, a normally open and a normally closed set. The normally closed are for the brake lights, and the normally open is for the torq converter lockup and cruise control functions.

Apologize for bringing up an old thread, but a quick question. My Dakota digital gauges have place to negatively trigger a Cruise indication on the display. I would like to do that when the cruise is actually engaged and not just when the switch is on. So if I use Pin J, will this provide me the correct negative signal when the cruise control is engaged? I have a 2005 Truck 5.3/4L60E with DBW but figured the wiring would be similar. Thanks in advance.

A '05 DBW is different, Sends a Serial Data signal to the IPC to turn on the Cruise Engaged Lamp.
