What master cylinder is this?

Hello, there is a late model master cylinder in my '63 c10. The previous owner has the cap tied and taped down, I'm guessing because it doesn't stay on so well anymore.

I wanted to replace it, but I'm not 100% what it is out of. Looking around it appears it may be an 80s - early 90's master cylinder from a GM truck. However there are two bolts with blue tips that extend out from the bottom driver side. I have no idea what these are for, and are not used on my truck. The replacement master cylinders do not have these.

Not sure, but it looks like a M/C off of a later model with ABS. I used the M/C model off of the donor truck I used, an 83 chevrolet c10. Should bolt in the same place, might have to use an adapter on the brake lines though.

Re: What master cylinder is this?

That makes sense, that those blue tipped bolt things would be for ABS, don't know why I didn't think of that.

I guess I'll get one of the late 80's M/C, near as I can tell they are nearly the same as what I have, but with out those blue tipped things.

Thanks for your help!

I could be wrong but I think the blue tipped things are call residual valves...used to adjust brake pressure.

Yes I would guess that is a late 80's early 90's master cylinder. It is quite possible that those brake lines are metric. In which case if you change to an earlier master cylinder those will need to be changed.

Assuming you have a disc/drum braking system. I would recomend getting a master from a '71-early 80's truck. You will also need to make sure you have the correct proportioning valve.

Not to step on any one toes best brake kit you can buy for the money is the booster and master cylinder from auto Zone it comes as both of them bolted together for 139.00 lifetime warranty it might of gone up to 159.00 with core charge Best off find some one on here with the Portion valve and get the rear brake leavers and i have pictures of what i did on my 1972 and my 1965 3/4 ton
