Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
My sister bought my dads 58 cameo after he died in 86, I asked her the other day if she would sell it to me, she said she hasn't drove it for a couple years and knows it needs a heater core. Where can I go buy one for it at. It has a 283 3 speed in it and its canary yellow with a black stripe. It was redone back in the early 80's and needs redone again. I just want it becasue it was my dads. Any help for find a heater core is appreciated. And also any idea what the cameo may be worth? I know you need pics, I'll try to get over there soon and get some. Thanks Randy

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
Can you pull the heater core and take to a radiator shop? Maybe they could cross reference or repair the original?

I haven't looked at it yet, she just told me it was leaking. She has it in storage right now.

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
If it's a Cameo it'll it'll be a deluxe heater. I think LMC trucks has them but you probably get it repaired a lot cheaper. I took mine out and had it fixed at a radiator shop. It was $40 and I cleaned it all up myself.
Your Cameo, if it's nice at all is worth a small fortune to the right guy. Watch out for anybody making you quick cash offer, you could lose thousands. |

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
I read somewhere that a 58 is the rarest Cameo. Is that yello/black color combo the original color? Post some pics when you get it.
I don't often agree with Dicer about anything but if it's all original I'd keep it that way, LOL. The value would be high in most any condition. |

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
Hate to bring a year-old thread back but has anyone sourced a heater core? it seems that I can find a core from any vehicle 1960-present, but this darn 1959 core got left in the past??
I will take my box apart and bring the core to a radiator shop if i have to, I would just like to know if these exist somewhere that I havent found yet. Thanks |

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
Your better off getting it cored or repaired. 1960 on the heaters were done in the factory and the cores were standardized for each year through several models. 1959 down heaters were rarely done as a factory option and you could have several different cores for the same truck. The two factory heaters both had different cores and the several aftermarket cores all had different cores.
They only replacement cores that I know of are exchanges and I really think they just fix yours and send it back for a hefty price. |

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
I took my 57 DeLuxe heater apart, took the core to a radiator shop. guys there re-soldered it, tight was a drum. $35 in Phx, Az. last summer. The fan motor was good, so was the switch. Cleaned up the housing, defroster control works, I had defrost this winter for the first time since I bought the truck in 84.

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
yea, they have cores but they are like $400, unless you give em a core, then they might only be $300. its a little too steep for my taste, but thanks for at least answering my question, appreciate that.

Re: Where to get a heater core for a 58 Cameo
When my stock 59 Deluxe heater core broke I went to the part store and found one that would fit in the box, modified the inlet and outlets with a couple of elbows, and used a valve in the inlet hose under the hood instead of the factory set up. I manually set it but you can get a longer cable and hook it up to the stock control. You can still get standard heater cores for around $40, I replaced the one in my 64 Chevelle in November. It was aluminum instead of brass.
