LT1 Swap?
A friend of mine has an LT1 and a 4L60E(?) transmission that he's talked about us putting it in my truck. It's still in the car, and has all the wiring, etc that needs to go with it. Anyone know what all is involved in a swap like this? How much trouble would it be? I'd love to end up with a EFI engine and overdrive in my truck.

Re: LT1 Swap?
You'll end up with just about as much power with a vortec engine (the combustion chamber that the vortecs use came from the LT1) without the problem prone OptiSpark ignition, plus there is much better aftermarket support for the Vortec engine than the LT1.

Re: LT1 Swap?
Yeah I know, LS swap>all. But with the motor/tranny most likely not going to cost anything I'm open to trying this and I could really use the MPG's :P

Re: LT1 Swap?
I had a '95 caprice with said engine and tranny...They were a nice combo...but they are a little obsolete these days with so many LSx engines out there. They are the red-head step child of chevy v-8's...you have to use lt1 heads and intakes, and opti spark is hanging on the front of the engine waiting for water to splash on it and leave you waiting until it dries out....maybe just get the trans and a stand alone computer, or trade it for a 700r4

Re: LT1 Swap?
LT1 would make a good sway if you jus looking for a mpg & up to date motor. It will drop right on to ya small block mounts. Do net search on LT1's & you'll see for ya self tha good for yaself..if tha price is good i say go for it. There is a good aftermarket base for them. guys where buing fast LT1's be tha LS ever turned a crank.

Re: LT1 Swap?
My '79 had an LT1 in it. I thought it was a great swap. It had good power, and pulled almost 20 MPG.
