Re: Parking brake cable routing
As the cable exits the firewall I believe it is held in place at the inner fender well and possibly the frame before it heads under the cab.

Re: Parking brake cable routing
Checked mine and it basically just comes out of the firewall and curls back towards the frame where it is clamped there. Maybe someone with a 71 or 72 can check the routing for you.

Re: Parking brake cable routing
My trucks have a metal clamp that bolts to the inner fender. I'll try to get a pic today for you.

Re: Parking brake cable routing
Here's 2 pics of my 71. Don't mind the rubber grommet, it needs to be put back in the firewall. Both my 69's also use this same clip bolted to inner fender.
Hope this helps, Bob

Re: Parking brake cable routing
Hi. Not sure if someone has given a good answer yet. I just installed a complete parking brake system on my 69 GMC C10......none of it was there, not even in the drum. I had a lot of similar questions and had to do extensive research on line. The cable that comes out of the firewall has two c clamps that have a tab on them. I can't describe it any better then that, but LMC truck has a good picture of them (2) intheir catalogue. Unless you have aftermarket wheel wells there is a hole drilled into the well just below and slightly to the right of the shaft. The second clamp bolts to the frame.....if I remember right......just below the firewall. I don't remember if LMC sells just the clamps/hold downs but I recommend ot trying to fabricate the two of them. Just save yourself the trouble and buy them. You probably have the advantage of living in the States so having the parts delivered is hassle free. I recently retired to Canada (Its an Obama thing) and LMC isn't too co operative with delivery here to Canada even thought they say they are. Usually, shipping and handeling is about as much as the parts themselves..

Re: Parking brake cable routing
OOPS! Good Job, Bob. Except the little square rubber gasket goes into the firewall. This becomes essential during the winter. Otherwise you'll have snow at your feet and in your crotch.
