making my own bracket?

I need to build a bracket similiar to this one for a.o.l system but I,ll probably have to weld it together ,top onto side with gussets, will a 110 wirefeed welder be good enough and what thicknes do you think I should use

Re: making my own bracket?

That really depends on how capable you are of using the welder. I have welded some pretty thick stock with a 110 mig. I am not very good at making pretty welds, but they do hold up.

Those brackets are pretty cheap, it might be worth just buying them. Those pictured came from Ride Tech.

Re: making my own bracket?

1/4" and yes about the 110, a 220 would be easier though...

If you are questioning yourself about the 110, maybe have someone else weld it up for you instead.

Re: making my own bracket?

Here is a better pic, does that look 1/4 in?I,ve be welding for awhile but I,ll tack it and take to someone with a 220.If I can get it bent is a bend stronger than a weld? I,m just trying something and a bought bracket just isn,t what I,m trying to do,is close but not what I need

Re: making my own bracket?

Probably 3/16". Don't need to worry about getting it bent, a good sound weld will be completely ok.
