1967 3/4 GMC suspension swap from a 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton
I got my complete suspension , brakes, power booster, master cylinder, steering, complete brake lines with proportioner valve and the steering column today. Its off a 1974 Chevy 1/2 truck. I'm doing a 5 lug disc brake conversion with power brakes and, power steering conversion on my 1967 GMC 3/4 ton. I picked everything up for $250.00. Next step is to dismantle everything and get ready for sandblasting. I had the guy I bought the parts from cut the entire front section off the vehicle with 6 inches of frame was left on behind the crossmember, so we moved the front suspension in a whole unit. I plan on cutting the section of the frame off the donor vehicle where the power steering dimple is and transplanting that small section on my truck.

im pretty sure you wont need to cut the dimple into the frame of your 67 it should already have it in there the steering boxes didnt change from 67-87 other than power and non power i put the same power steering box in a 68 not to long ago they bolt right in ....i could be wrong though but check it out before you go threw cutting it

here are a few pics its hard to see but it has the 73 brakes and full steering and the booster as well you have to modify the rod a lil bit but it works killer and i kept the 67- 72 arms because of ground clearance the bushings are smaller on the 67-72

Re: 1967 3/4 GMC suspension swap from a 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton
I sure hope I don't have to cut anything on the frame, but I will see how it all lines up once I get it apart. From the look of it, it appears that the steering gearbox will hit the frame on my 1967. I have the raised bosses on the 1967 frame but not the notch the 1974 frame has on it. I will post some pics today of my frame. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Scott

Here are some pictures of my power steering gearboxes. The first gearbox is the 1974 Chevy truck power steering gearbox and frame and the other three are the 1967 GMC 3/4 ton power steering gearbox and frame

You WILL need modify your 67 frame. The 67 trucks did not come with a traditional power steering set up. They used a small hydraulic ram mounted on the cross link. It was more of a power assisted steering, than full power steering.
I believe it can be accomplished with the old heat and beat method if your not comfortable with your welding skills.

Re: 1967 3/4 GMC suspension swap from a 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton
I could bang it in with a hammer or I could bolt the " bracket" on, but thats too easy. I want to try my hand at welding this section on...with assistance of course from a skilled welder. I never welded a day in my life, but I'm going to get lots of practice with this project.
Thank you, Scott |

You got me on that one. I have never dealt ith it personally, just remember reading that the 67 frame doesn't have the P/S dimple. Hope I got that right....

67 frames were different.
You can use one of the many aftermarket spacer kits to make the later boxes work. 68-72 frames are the same.
