What offset size rim will I need to use on a 4/6 drop
I have read so many different combos, I'm now lost in what works great. What offset should I use if I want a 4/6 drop on my 1967 GMC 3/4. I have suspension from a 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton donor truck, I'm installing a 5 lug disc/drum setup. I'm doing a almost complete swap of the frontend except the crossmember and I'm going to use the rearend out of the 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton truck also. What drop kit gives the best ride and is a reasonably price kit. I know that the 1974 suspension is wider in front and back. What would be the best offset to use with 20 inch rims or 22 inch rims?

What width wheels are you planning on using?
20x8? 20x9? 20x10? Better yet,... which wheels exactly? Most wheels only come is a few backspaces. I recommend ECE's 4.5/6 drop.

Re: What offset size rim will I need to use on a 4/6 drop
Keith, I'm needing advice on all the above. I don't know what width or size of rim that will be the best choice. I'm open to using any rim. I might have missed it, but I looked at ECE for a drop 4/6 for a 1974 Chevy Truck. I didn't see they carried it.
Thanks, Scott Last edited by sduckworth13; 04-14-2011 at 10:40 PM. |

For a staggered set-up, 20x8's up front w/4.5 to 5.25" back-spacing (I prefer 5-5.25" personally). Use a 255-40-20 (28" tall). 20x9.5's w/5.0" back spacing & a 275-45-20 or 20x10's 5/5.5" back spacing & 295-40-20's (29.3" tall).

Re: What offset size rim will I need to use on a 4/6 drop
Even though I'm using a 1974 Chevy 1/2 ton suspension ( disc/ drum ), I still need to get a 4/6 drop for a 1967 w/ leafs? I don't have coils, leafs only.

You'll need 73-80 dropped spindles & a drop coil for a 67-72. The 67-72 rear leafs utilize different hangers, shackles, & narrower leafs (2.25" vs. 2.5"). You'll want a flip kit for the 67-72 year model. The 67-72 & 73-80 rear axle housings utilize the same OD axle tubes, they were just different lengths (67-70 shorter; 71-87 longer).

Is your plan to use the original leafs or the leafs from the donor?

Re: What offset size rim will I need to use on a 4/6 drop
I'm going to use my original leafs for now, I was inform to do it that way. I had the guy I bought the rearend from cut off the 1974 Chevy donor truck leafs.

Re: What offset size rim will I need to use on a 4/6 drop
I was wondering if I should do a flip kit of lower leafs on the rear, or is there a better option for my set up.

For 6" drop? Flip kit.
