New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

Hello, I just picked up a 59 Apache for my 13 year daughter for her and I to put together for her first car. She has been wanting a 55-57 truck for awhile and I found this 59 and she liked it so home it came. It's in pretty good shape. It has already had a 2nd gen Camaro clip and rear end installed. Chevy 350 with TH350 tranny. The cab was painted back in 95-96 time frame and then put in a garage and the owner lost interest. We flushed all the fluids and it fires right up and runs smooth. Hopefully she keeps interest but if not then I have a truck! I will try to keep up with the progress. Thanks to the people of the forum for all the usefull post!

Nice first truck, but I'm sure she would rather have what you have in that garage. My first was a 57 which I still have.

Cool it should be a fun project and good bonding for both of you. I restored (well mostly cleaned, tuned, new clutch, detailed and minor body work) a 67 Mustang with my oldest daughter when she was 16. Made her drive a 71 Torino Wagon as the learner car for the year we worked on the Mustang. She drove it for 4 years then sold it to her sister. Sis and I went thru it again and she drove it for about 6 months. Older daughter in now in late 40's and going back to school with one of the goals being to get another 67 Mustang.

I hope she stays interested in it, nice to see that gals are into trucks too. Done right she will be safer in the truck than the camaro. And she will impress all her friends and the guys too, especially if she does some or most of the wrench work.

Well. We pulled the stock fuel tank today and cleaned it out. Seems to be good still. Put it back in filled with gas and no leaks works good.

Well good old keep it stock me, is doing a 180 on this one. Especially since its already had some conversions done before you got it. On this one I say lose the stock fuel tank, and mount the rear type. Don't want gas in the cab with your daughter. Definatly do the dual master cylinder. Amd seat belts too.

I prob will move the tank later but I wanted to get rid of the boat tank on the bumper to drive it some. It already has power disc brakes with dual master cylinder. Ya Mississippi isn't so bad and don't believe all the movies you see about MS!

Unless she gets taller by the time she can hit the road in it, looks like the seat needs a bit more altitude, and maybe some blocks on the pedals.

She is only 13 so she has at least 3 years till she can drive.

To keep her interested keep telling her shes gona look way cooler driving that truck than anything else. All the guys will think shes the greatest with that Chevy truck. And its way safer than a crappy little car, I suppose a person could put an airbag type steering wheel in one if the wanted the extra piece of mind, or even a roll cage with a full harness.
Tell her that old truck if done right will be more valuable than what any of her friends will be driving. She should hang on to it till she's in her 70's.

Few more pictures. One of the inside before I had a chance to clean it up. One of the engine- 350 with TH350 tranny. Power brakes. Prob. gonna pull the engine to paint it a little and clean up under the hood.

This is a perfect candidate for major modifications, this is what all that want to modify should look for. And not a good original truck. Anyway it looks like all thats needed is some good cleaning up here and there, and what ever interior mods that she needs and wants.

Ya most the hard work is done. Just tryn to put somthing back together that someone else took apart 13 years ago is alittle hard. I got two boxes of parts and bolts and not sure what fits were. I need to order an assy manual.

The assy manuals now being sold do not have info on 58-59 unique body or beds. Still good to have but front clip and fleetside bed will be a mystery. I think there must have been a supplement but I have never found one.
