Cab Swap, Will it work?
Hi my name is Kyle. I am new to the forum and I have a question for you all. Ilive in southern Minnesota and have recently purchased a 1976 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 truck for plowing snow. The body is very bad on it and everything needs to be replaced. My question is: If I were to find a cab off a larger truck say 2 ton 73-87 will it bolt onto the body mounts for the 1/2 ton frame? The reason I would like to use a 2 ton cab is to get the small rear window and make the truck a little more custom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Direct swap? Simple answer is no. Can you make it fit? Sure. You can also make the cab from a 2008 Silverado fit the same way.

Re: Cab Swap, Will it work?
I guess I should have explained my situation better. I would like to do rust repair on this truck and it needs to have the cab completly replaced. I was only wondering if anyone knows if the body mounts are in the same location and if the cab will bolt to the frame. I am an experienced auto body technician and I know I can make anything fit but it doesn't make sence to take the time and modify a cab to fit if I can find one that will bolt in place with minor modifications.

Then no... A 65 series cab would not fit... Completely different...

If I am not mistaken, they only thing they have in common are the doors.

Re: Cab Swap, Will it work?
Thanks for the info. That's all I was wondering. I have a line on an 87 with a cleaner body and frame. I might just get that and make one good truck of the two of them.

Re: Cab Swap, Will it work?
If you are wanting the smaller back window, you could section the cab at the rockers and windshield pillars to take care of the cab corners. The floors are completely different.
