swaybar to replace track bar

can i use a sway bar to replace the track bar on the rear of my 64 chevy with trailing arms. im planning to bag this truck just trying to figure a way to keep axle centered with factory arms

The sway bar helps prevent 'leaning' (for lack of a better description).

The Panhard bar (track bar) used in conjunction w/the truck arms keeps the axle centered relative to the frame but is limited in it's range vs. amount of side shift allowed. The longer the bar, the less side shift so using one as long as possible within your available space is the way to go. Another option is the Watt's link. It helps keep the axle centered exactly throughout travel but is definitely more complicated to set up.

The sway bar in it's basic design won't do the job of the Panhard bar.

Exactly, what SCOTI said, if your going to bag it get a watts link . It will keep your axle centered all the way up and down, the rear sway bar is only designed to reduce sway at one height. you will create some akward angles and side shift with only a sway bar, that the sway bar cannot correct with a bagged suspension.

sway bar would be a nice addition but you will still need a watts link or another option is an adjustable panhard bar if you're going to keep the driving height at a pretty standard preset. Can get it adjusted at ride height to center the axle. And those adjustable bars can be had CHEAP on ebay....

thanks everyone i looked at the watts link but they are rediculous in price. i mean they sd wants almost 500 for their watts link. plus i dont really have the room to do a watts behind axle cause i want to run a blazer tank in the back

You don't "need" a Watts link. Buy an adjustable track bar, center your axle at ride height, and call it done

no prob. he is probbly talking a watts link. an how much would said watts link cast an how far behind the axle cover will it be at its furthest point

yes the watts link. Don't know on cost but should not be anywhere near $500.00 I will have to talk to Ronnie and see what he thinks. He can fab anything. Even Top fuel chassis's and rear ends. He is a CrewChief on a top fuel dragster, give us a dimension you have to live with

So convert it to leaf springs, or a 3 link.

You know a bolt in watts link is 369 bucks http://www.kplinks.com/product.php?p...&cat=98&page=1 if you want cheaper talk to a local chassis shop they can build one that will fit even with the blazer tank in there.
