1981 Chev C10 fuel issues
I can't switch tanks on my 1981 Chevy C10, she's stuck on the passenger tank. All fuses are good, swapped driver's tank and sender unit, checked ground and new selector switch, just won't change over or show fuel level in driver's tank. My selector valve on the frame doesn't make any sound when the switch is depressed, but neither does the spare unit I have. Any suggestions or help with this? Patches.

If you are sure the spare selector valve is good try swapping them. If it is a used spare, you might want to try a new one.

Re: 1981 Chev C10 fuel issues
Make sure you press and hold down the switch;the 80 and older ones you just have to press the switch to left or right tank;in 81 it was changed to a more complex selector valve that required you to push and hold down for several seconds.
When the 81s first came out we had customers complaining their dual tank switch did not work. From there make sure you have power to the switch and power going to the selector valve in each direction when the switch is depressed. |

Yeah, doesn't matter how long I hold the switch so I'll try a new valve, thanks guys.

Re: 1981 Chev C10 fuel issues
Sooooo, after taking a wiring harness from my parts truck, doing some tests, turns out, the only issue was a bad connection at the firewall plug. Just a little rust behind. A little clean up and, BOOM!, two good working tanks again, nothing wrong with the switch or valve. Just a little info that might help someone in the future, save you some time!
