wires for alternator and battery ground wire
Putting back together 72-C10 W/ 350. Need to know where the ground wire for battery is bolted on? and also the 2 wires on the back of the alternator, does the red wire go on the bolt or the stud? Thanks in advance.

You should ground the battery to the engine block, and the engine block to the chassis. The red alternator wire goes to the large stud with the plastic donut around it.

I guess what I am asking is do you know where on the block is the original place to bolt this ground wire to. and on the alternator i have there is a stud on the back at the bottom and there is a bolt on the back at the top. Which one does the red wire go to. don't mean to sound so stupid just want to make sure it is right.

On my 69's 307 the ground wire from the battery went to the front of the engine block, passenger side. I will look for a pic.

Here's a pic while I was pulling the engine. The ground wire is right below the valve cover - already disconnected from the battery.

There is a couple of holes on the front of the block near the fuel pump. You know one of them is the one that goes through to the fuel pump shaft.

Water pump bolt for the ground wire. The stud on the alternator back is your juice. I have a '98 so my alternator wires are a little different now and can't remember the older style setup.

Another place is the thermostat housing bolt. When I switched to long water pump I put mine there along with the alternator bracket.

On the alt there's 2 studs, the top is for the red wire and the bottom (smaller) is for the black ground wire.
