New Toy 1963 c10 I got for FREE

I just brought home my 1963 C. It was free but of course it cost bout $100 in gas. It has more bondo than metal but ill have to remove the bondo to see what route ill go. If its not bad ill make a clean custom but if its bad ill make a full out custom. Oh and its a long bed so it will have to be cut down.

Is that a 3/4 ton? Those rear wheels are throwing me off on it

Re: New Toy 1963 c10 I got for FREE

I don't have too much experience with the changing of the axels or anything like that. Mine still has the original 6-lug set up. (Someone correct me if I am wrong) But i believe you can change the axels out on the rear to whatever lug number you want and get a 5-lug or 6-lug rotor/brake set up..Again Im not very experienced with that so hopefully im not too misleading haha

Free is always good in my book.

Looks like a '63 GMC 3/4 ton? Does it have leaf springs or coils and trailing arms?

That makes it a little easier. You should be able to just bolt up a '73-'87 C10 rear differential. The spring perches are actually a little different spacing, but there is generally enough movement in the springs that they will bolt up. The one thing that will be different is the position of the shocks. You can either change the differential to match the truck or vice versa.

The trailing arm crossmember may be in the frame of your truck. If so, then you just need a pair of trailing arms, along with the front mounts. Then of course you will need either a trailing arm C10 differential, or weld trailing arm mounts onto a later differential.

If i have the crossmember, i will look for the arms and just make the brackets for the axle

Re: New Toy 1963 c10 I got for FREE

I want to find a truck like that to pull my trailer with my 84 swb on it to the track. Funny thing is that I already have some newer 8 lug chevy aluminum rims but no truck. LOL

Re: New Toy 1963 c10 I got for FREE

the funky grill in the artist rendering looks like the Desoto grill the custom guys use in Mercury's... and the side by side headlights are either the earlier 60-62ish chevy or the GMC setup which ran dual lights.

Re: New Toy 1963 c10 I got for FREE

Hmmm, a bagged 63 GMC 3/4ton? Why does that sound so familiar? Mine didn't have the trailing arm mounts on the crossmember but I believe there were holes to bolt some to it. Might be able to get some aftermarket. I replaced the entire suspension on mine but it was expensive.

You don't need to cut the bed down, these truck look good as longbeds too.
