'55-59 Repro Parts Pricing Question
Searching online for weather stripping I notice that ClassicParts.com sells a pair $24.99 but the same thing sells at BrothersTrucks for $39.99.
For vent window glass, Classic = $19.99, Brothers is $44.99 (yes, a single piece) I assume if I go on checking there are similar huge differences on a lot of things each sells. SO, you guys have bought a TON of these repro parts and I haven't,...yet: Which should I buy? Yes, generally "You Get What You Pay For" but when I owned my '46 truck I spoke with a guy that sold parts for it on eBay and retail and he said a huge quantity of the parts came from the same original sources of supply. Why would this be any different for my '55? Have you guys noticed a BIG difference in quality, accuracy and/or service from these two supply houses? Are there other repro parts houses you recommend. I know about LMC. Others? |

Re: '55-59 Repro Parts Pricing Question
If you like paying more for the same part from the same manufacturer and waiting for back orders then send your money to Brothers.
If you want good parts at a consistently low price and fast delivery then use Classic Parts. I went through the process of comparing the various suppliers during my 54 build and it was a rare exception when anyone was less that Classic Parts when shipping charges were also entered into the equation. If Brothers is close by you then maybe the cost would be less if you could pick the parts up yourself. |

Re: '55-59 Repro Parts Pricing Question
I've ordered stuff from Brothers with no problems. Most of the stuff for my '58 I got from classic parts, I haven't had any quality issues. The window channel kits and all the rubber stuff worked out fine. Big pieces like the front bumper and the bed strips I get at classic auto parts in OKC because I can swing by and pick it up. I worry about freight damage on the big pieces.

Re: '55-59 Repro Parts Pricing Question
I've ordered a bunch of things from Classic Industries (not sure if it's the same as classic parts) on their bi-monthly 20% off sales. What I've found, is that their stuff looks like it would be sold in pairs, but it isn't. Now I have to go back and order one more of a bunch of things because it was not in pairs...Brothers would have been cheaper.

Re: '55-59 Repro Parts Pricing Question
I went ahead and ordered two stainless round mirror heads and a pair of door perimeter weatherstripping pieces from ClassicParts.com.
Fingers are crossed the order will come through clean. I checked a coule other small items and the prices were identical, but again on somethings there's just a big price difference and no obvious reason for it. |
