My '78 Cheyenne
Hey guys. Been on here for a while, and decided to finally register!
My dad had a '78 4x4 Scottsdale, and I've been looking for one ever since he got rid of his. It's been 4 long years and I finally found "the one"! It's a 1978 Chevy Cheyenne. According to the VIN, it used to be a 2WD, but its on a 1974 Chevy 4x4 frame now. Has a 350, granny 4 speed, and a NP205 transfer case. When I got it, I discovered a few things about it. First off, the rocker panels are toast. I am in the middle of replacing them (sadly, I didn't take pics). And the interior is a mix of about 3 trucks. I plan on redoing the interior this summer. Also, the stepside bed was falling apart, but it now has a fleetside bed (Never been a stepside guy). Took the tube grille off, and put a nice one from a 78 or 79 on it. Haven't taken any pics of it yet. I also plan on lifting it a little bit. I love offroading and going in the woods and I LOVE the outdoors. I plan on keeping it for a while. That Lincoln in the 1st pic used to me mine, but I traded for this Last edited by sethv; 05-18-2011 at 08:13 PM. |

Re: My '78 Cheyenne
Welcome to the forum sethv. Looks like your on your way to having the truck you have always wanted. It's a bit rough around the edges, but nothing that can't be fixed.
I'm kinda digging the hot rod Lincoln. You have any pics of that one?

Re: My '78 Cheyenne
To answer a few questions... The plates are indeed NY plates. I took these pics a few hours before we swapped vehicles.
It's rough, but it'll all be worth it when I'm done. I'm pretty stoked to get the rockers replaced and have a legal inspection Here's a few of the Lincoln. I got it for only $600! There was nothing wrong with it either Has a 460, and a 3 speed automatic. Got a whole 6 miles to a gallon. But then again, I always abused the fun pedal |

Re: My '78 Cheyenne
When I got my '76 it was a very similar truck to what you've got, and I've since done the same things you are planning on. Here's a couple pics to show you what it can look like lifted.

Re: My '78 Cheyenne
Wow, that's a sharp truck! I like the way it looks now. The lift kit I got is a 6" (came with the truck) and I think it'll look sweet.
Here's a few of my truck (I had a little fun last night. lol) This is the only reason I wanted it |

Re: My '78 Cheyenne
Can't believe I haven't been updating this!!
Here's a quick rundown of a few things Spun a rod bearing out in the woods last year (8-4-11) Blew the motor 9-12-11 Put another 350 in it a few weeks after that Since those pics, I've painted it blue, and got the rear end fixed. Also did a few things to the interior. Had a seat from a '73 or '74 put in for a while but it was lacking the holes for the seatbelt so I had to put my torn up vinyl seat back in it. Also put 305 heads on the 350, and a mild Crane cam in it. This was after I sold it the 2nd time, April 1st 2012. Got it back, and painted it blue. Rear end was still saggy. Since then my friends and I fixed that, but the front leaves will get some attention soon. Old pack, already re-put back together after snapping 3... Had to reuse that main leaf because the bolts are all seized up on the JY pack I got, and on the shackles on the frame Needed some liquid courage.. lol All done, running 5 leaves plus the overload Finally sits better, rides a little stiffer but it doesn't look bad anymore. It's rolling on 265/75 16's now, one of my 33's blew out and I found these pretty cheap, couldn't pass them up for $130 for the set! 2 are brand new and the front 2 are about half tread or so Been doing some interior work too, will get a few pics soon.
